Jat Mahasabha seeks resignation of Arjun Singh
New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The All India Jat Mahasabha today demanded the resignation of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh for the delay in removing certain derogatory remarks against the Jat community in the NCERT books for school children.
Mahasabha Spokesman Tara Chand Mor said in a statement here that the remark describing Jats as "Lutera" (plunderers) was not yet removed despite agitation by Jats throughout Haryana and protest by many MPs in Parliament. A letter written by Haryana Chief Minister B S Hooda in this regard was also not treated ''seriously'' by Mr Arjun Singh.
"All these show that the HRD Minister knowingly wanted to malign Jats," he alleged, while pointing out that "continuance of Mr Arjun Singh in the cabinet as HRD minister is dangerous to the nation." Mr Mor said the first Indian government in exile in 1915 in Afghanistan was set-up by a Jat, Raja Mahendra Pratap. "Besides him there were so many freedom fighters from the community who contributed to the freedom of India." He claimed that 75 per cent of the casualties in the Kargil war were Jats.
