India-South Africa art show in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) A fortnight long unique Indo-South African art show will begin here on September one as a tribute to Gandhiji on the occasion of the centenary of the Satyagraha movement.

President A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate this show which will be held at the Travancore House art gallery.

The Natal Empire Theatre witnessed the launch of passive resistance by Indians on September 11,1906 against the racist policies of the British regime.This was under the guidance of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.This 'passive resistance' was subsequently known as satyagraha.

This show will travel to Durban's KIZO Gallery from October 2-16, during the Satyagraha centenary there.

Indian artists whose works will be on display include K G Subramaniam, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Hakku Shah, Mahendra Pandya and Krishnamachari Bose.

Twenty South African artists from Durban have agreed to send their works, according to the organisers. They include Andrew Verster,Clint Singh, Rani Pillai and vannessa Berlein.

The show will have two sections, Pathways and Footprints.
