Srinagar, Aug 27 (UNI) Security forces killed a Hizbul Mujahideen militant and arrested another belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) while ultras shot at and wounded two contractors in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

A Hizb militant was killed by the security forces during an encounter at Astan Nar, Warpash in Ganderbal area of Srinagar outskirts last night. An AK rifle, four magazines, 185 rounds and a grenade were seized from the possession of the slain ultra.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a Lashkar militant at Bhaderwah in Doda district last evening during a search operation, the spokesman said. The ultra was involved in hurling of grenade near a graveyard at Bhaderwah on August 20 and had been a close associate of Lashkar commander Yasir Nabi.

Militants fired upon two contractors -- Mohammad Shafi Malik and Abdul Qayoom -- at Arwani in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, causing injuries to them. They were immediately shifted to a hospital, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a militant escaped from the Kunzer police station in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district last night, official sources said.

They said Reyaz Ahmed Khan of Kunzer was arrested by troops of 193 Field Regiment on May 17 this year. One pistol, one magazine and 21 rounds were also seized from his possession that time.

The sources said Khan gave a slip to the policemen and escaped in the nearby forest area.

A massive manhunt has been launched to arrest him, they added.

The sources said action was being contemplated against the errant policemen for negligence and dereliction of duty.

The locals later claimed that Khan was innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case.
