Govt to extend term of Justice N N Singh Commission
Patna, Aug 26 (UNI) The Bihar government today decided to extend the term of Justice N N Singh Commission, constituted to probe afresh the 1989 Bhagalpur riot case, by six month.
Talking to reporters here, state Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said that the commission was supposed to submit the report within six months of its first hearing. But the state government could not provide the required infrastructure to the commission due to some difficulties. Now all necessary facilities had been provided to the commission and it was expected to hold its first hearing shortly, he added.
Mr Amanullah said that the main accused of the Bhagalpur riot, Kameshwar Yadav had surrendered and several other witnesses, who did not appear in the court earlier, had also approached the Bhagalpur district administration.
Referring to the missing four rifles from the BMP armoury in Muzaffarpur, he said the matter was being investigated and all the twenty guards, who were on duty, would be summarily dismissed if the firearms were not recovered within a day or two.
A high level team probing the matter included A K Seth,IG(BMP), S K Bhardwaj, I G (provision), DIG(Muzaffarpur) Gupteshwar Pandey, he added.
