CPI demands govt waive farmer loans
Hyderabad, Aug 27 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretariat member K Ramakrishna today demanded the state government to waive bank loans taken by farmers, who were facing economic problems due to the drought.
Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Ramakrishna said the government also should supply free seeds to the farmers of flood affected districts and provided loans to them at four per cent interest rate.
Stating that the state party members visited the recent flood and drought affected areas and studied the farmers plight in the state, he demanded the government to pay compensation to the victims who lost their livelihood due to the heavy rains.
He alleged that the government was not providing rehabilitation to the flood victims. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) should also be implemented in the districts where people were affected by drought and heavy rains, Mr Ramakrishna added.
