48 die as water tank collapses in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Aug 27 (UNI) The death toll due to the collapse of a water tank under Kama town in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan today has risen to 48.
According to District Collector R Venkatesan, the victims were watching a wrestling competition organised in connection with a ''Bhojan Tali Mela'' in Kama town. About 150 people were watching the mela sitting on a water tank.
The goverment has ordered an inquiry by Revenue Board chairman Paramesh Chandra and has asked him to submit a report within fifteen days.
State Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje rushed Health Minister Digamber Singh and Mewath Vikas Board president Nasaru Khan to the site. The government has also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 25000 to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 5000 to the injured.
Eight seriously injured have been admitted to the hospital.
