Toyota to introduce automotive education in India

Hubli, Aug 26 (UNI) Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has in conjuction with Toyota Motor corporation (TMC) and its nationwide dealer network introduced a unique apprentice training initiative, Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP).

In the first phase of the programme, TKM had partnered with four technical training institutes--Deshpande Institute of Vocational Training Udyog at Haliyal in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka, in Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Industrial Training Centre, New Delhi, St.

Joseph's Industrial Training Institute, Mumbai, and Mohanmull Chordia Jain Industrial Training Centre, Chennai, a Toyota release here said today.

The selection of institutes was based on criteria such as academic reputation, availability of proper classrooms and practice area.

TKM would partner with 20 technical institutes by 2010 and invest approximately Rs 25 crore for T-TEP implementation in the country.

Over 1,000 technical institute students would benefit from the programme, the release said.

Under this unique technical educational programme, TKM would impart training to instructors of the select institutes with the latest technology used at Toyota. Additionally, this initiative would expose students to the cutting edge technology used in the automobile industry. TMC would fund the project, besides providing T-TEP hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals.

Besides the training, the students would also undergo on the job training at Toyota's dealerships to get a first hand feel of Toyota production system. As many as 11 Toyota dealers had been certified for training technicians to upgrade their skills from maintanence to repair diagnostics.

Globally, Toyota had already introduced this programme in 50 countries, including USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China and Vietnam, and partnered with 393 industrial training therein, the release said.

Union Minister Oscar Fernandes would inaugurate T-TEP at Haliyal on August 30.
