Subramani committee mulling the idea of cancelling CET
Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) The permanent committee for conduct of entrance test for private professional colleges headed by Justice S S Subramani is mulling the idea of cancelling the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the newly formed Tamil Nadu Private Medical Colleges Association (TNPMCA).
The CET was conducted by the TNPMCA on August 14 to fill up the 20 per cent management quota seats in three private medical colleges in the state.
Mr Justice Subramani told newspersons here today that ''we are planning to cancel the CET as the TNPMCA had not published the student's merit list till today''.
The committee directed the association to publish the result and rank-list within ten days of conducting the CET. ''I was told that the results are published. But the rank list had not been prepared so far and I heard from other sources that without preparing the ranklist, admissions are being done''.
The TNPMCA had told him that the results would be published on August 17 and the admissions would commence on August 21.
The Association in its August 18 letter to the permanent committee said since the Government had not completed its admission process, the admission for management quota seats could be done only after August 28, he said.
''When I asked about the rank-list, there was no reply. Yesterday I issued a notice asking them to submit the rank-list and also told them that admission should be made after giving atleast three days time for the students,'' Justice Subramani said.
''We have given the TNPMCA time till August 28, after which the permanent committee will issue a notice, cancelling the CET conducted by it'', he added.
As per the Supreme Court directive, admission to professional courses should be completed on or before August 31, he added.
