Sania out in quarters of forest hills classic
New York, Aug 26 (UNI) The build-up to the US Open proved disappointing for Sania Mirza as the Indian lost in three sets to fourth seed Lourdes Dominguez of Spain in the quarterfinals of the Forest Hills Classic in New York.
The World No 44 Sania went down fighting to the 24-year-old Spaniard 4-6, 7-5, 3-6 in the Tier IV event yesterday which is the last WTA event before the fourth Grandslam of the year beginning at Flushing Meadows on Monday.
Sania, who has been horribly out of form this year in the singles, paid dearly for her unforced errors and erring serves and lost the first set 4-6.
She looked like staging a comeback and drew parity by winning the second 7-5. However she ran out of steam after that even as the Spaniard up the ante and pocketed the set and the match to set up a semi-final clash with America's Meghann Shaughnessy.
