Northern Grid synchronises with Central Grid
Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) In a significant development in the power sector, the Northern Power Grid was today synchronised with the Central Power Grid, comprising the Western Region, Eastern Region and North Eastern Region.
A spokesman for the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) said the power grids had been connected at 400 KV substation, Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh (Northern Grid) from 400 KV substation, Mujaffarpur in Bihar (Eastern Grid) through a 400 KV double circuit transmission line.
With the synchronisation of the two power grids at 1226 hrs today, he said the power deficit states fed from the Northern Power Grid, including Haryana and can utilise surplus power in Eastern and Western grids.
''If there is no passage or corridor constraints, Haryana can get power generated at the projects connected to the Eastern, Western and North Eastern Grids. There are a number of agreements between Haryana and the power utilities in the Eastern Grid to purchase electricity on short term basis.
Additional short term power purchase agreements with different power generating agencies connected with the Eastern Grid would now be easily possible.
The spokesman said the frequency variation in the Northern Grid would now be minimum. The frequency level in the Northern Power Grid had improved immediately after the synchronisation of the two grids.
With its improved level, the frequency was hovering at the level above 49.5 Hz in the afternoon, power supply to the industries has increased in the state and number of power cuts in domestic sector have reduced drastically.
Load restriction reduction has been possible due to increased stability of power transmission system as the frequency level has improved. Now power system stability will also increase, the spokesman said.
