Mumbai-Delhi Garib Rath Express from October 2: Rathwa
Nagpur, Aug 26 (UNI) The first Garib Rath Express will begin operating between Mumbai and Delhi from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, this year, Union Minister of State for Railways Narayan Rathwa said here today.
Speaking to newspersons after flagging off the inaugural run of a new superfast train between Nagpur and Pune this evening, Mr Rathwa said two more Garib Rath express trains would begin operating from March 31 next year, and another from May 1. There was a proposal to develop Ajni station in Nagpur and Igatpuri station as terminal stations, Mr Rathwa said.
Earlier, speaking after flagging off the new train, Mr Rathwa said Rs 250 crore would be spent on renewal of residential quarters for Class IV employees of Central Railway. The new 2-room-kitchen design was ready, he said.
Mr Rathwa assured that efforts would be made to convert the Nagpur-Pune train, which currently runs thrice a week, into a daily one. Efforts would also be made to introduce a new train between Nagpur and Bangalore, he said.
The 2136 Nagpur-Pune Superfast Express, which was flagged off today, will run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It will leave Nagpur at 1835 hrs and reach Pune at 1025 hrs the next day. On the return journey, the 2135 Pune-Nagpur Super-fast Express will leave at 1720 hrs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, reaching Nagpur at 0925 hrs the next day.
