Madras University to set up Nano-technology centre
Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) The University of Madras will set up a National Centre for Nano-technology at a cost of Rs five crore, Univesity's Vice-Chancellor Prof S P Thyagarajan said today.
Presiding over the inaugural function of an International Conference on Nano-science and Nano-technology organised by the University, he said the State Government had granted the amount for setting up the centre.
''This Centre would be an inter-disciplinary one, with the participation of faculties from various science departments in the university,'' he added.
The department of science and technology and other funding agencies would also provide a grant of Rs five crore for the Centre, he said and added that an expert committee consisting of experts from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and other premier institutions, would be constituted.
''Our faculty have already published 74 publications of International significance and we have identified 25 faculties for the national centre,'' he said.
The University was also planning a five-year integrated M Sc course in nano-technology and bio-medical sciences.
Meanwhile, Anna University was also planning a separate research facility for nano-science and technology at the Guindy campus, according to its Vice-Chancellor Prof D Viswanathan.
