K'taka to issue smart cards for vehicle owners soon
Mysore, Aug 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has planned to issue smart cards to vehicle owners in the state soon, Transport Department Commissioner M C Narayane Gowda informed today.
Speaking to reporters here, he said once the smart cards were introduced, vehicle owners need not carry their vehicle-related documents as all details would be available on the cards.
He said the government had sanctioned Rs 15 crore to improve the infrastructure of various offices in the department. While Rs ten crore would be utilised for constructing new buildings, the remaining would be spent on driving tracks. Work had already begun in Madikeri, Davangere, Hassan, Haveri and Bagalkot districts, he added.
Mr Gowda said it had also been decided to recruit more staff to improve efficiency of service.
To reduce the workload on the RTO here, the government had decided to open another one. It had also taken serious view of functioning of middlemen in RTO offices across the state and was determined to put an end to it.
He said the government had decided to computerise all RTO offices and the process had already commenced.
