Former Olympian urges K'taka to come out with sports policy
Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Former Olympian and Dhyan Chand awardee Uday K Prabhu today urged the Karnataka government to come out with a sports policy and build proper infrastructure to tap the vast pool of sports talent in the state.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) to felicitate winners of the prestigious Arjuna and Dhyan Chand awards from the state for the year 2005-06, he said besides announcing a sports policy, the state government should also give priority to setting up proper infrastructure for sports activities. Karnataka had always made significant contributions to the world of sports, he added.
Earlier, the KOA felicitated Dhronacharya awardee Captain Venu (Boxing) and Arjuna awardees Shikha Tandon (Swimming) and Aparna Popat (Badminton), besides Prabhu.
Recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, Pankaj Advani (billiards) could not attend the function as he was participating in the Billiards World Championship in California, US.
