Flood toll in Rajasthan rises to 93, 123 in MP
New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) The death toll due to floods in Rajasthan rose to 93 with the possiblity of an epidemic outbreak looming large while the toll in Madhya Pradesh reached 123 today.
In Rajasthan, a Barmer district alone has reported 58 deaths.
State Relief Minister Kirorilal Meena said eight more bodies were recovered by Navy divers from Maluva village in the day. With this, the toll in the worst-affected Maluva village alone has touched 20. The villagers had handed over a list of 36 missing people to the district administration earlier.
The minister said the state government has sought the help of 150 experts from Gujarat to dispose of the 47,000 livestocks which perished in the flood. He said it was important to dispose of these bodies in a scientific way as there was always the chance of an out break of diseases due to the decompostion of the animal bodies.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal in Jaipur said there should be no politics over distribution of compensation to the flood-affected people in Rajasthan.
''We should not indulge in politics over compensation. One cannot comment on the state's relief work in just three days.
We can assess it only after a week and then can talk about its efficiency,'' Mr Jaiswal said.
