CJ exhorts HC staff to be role models to subordinate courts

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal today exhorted High Court staff to be ' role models' to their colleauges in subordinate courts by delivering justice to common man in an effective and speedy manner.

He was speaking at a function organised here as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka High Court to honour loyal and dedicated staff members who had retired and crossed 75 years of age.

He said the staff of High Courts could play a vital role whenever litigants approached them in their pursuit for justice by lending honest and sincere service with a dedicated mind. This would set an example to their colleagues in subordinate courts. Ineffective functionaries, be it higher or lower, were a burden on the society, he added.

Referring to Judiciary topping the list of corrupt departments in a survey conducted by an organisation, he said he did not subscribe to the views expressed by his learned predecessor five years ago in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph stressed the role to be played by the staff and said their dedicated services had brought laurels to the State High Court.

He also announced that he had discussed with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on pay hike for court staff and the matter had been referred to the Pay Commission for consideration. The Court staff should not be equated with that of the state government employees as the nature of work was totally different, he opined.

Lok Ayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde, Advocate General Uday Holla and other judges of the Karnataka High Court were among other who attended the function.
