Centre, state govts should not ignore Labour laws: INTUC
Pondicherry, Aug 26 (UNI) National President of the Indian National Trade Union Congress(INTUC) G Sanjeev Reddy MP today expressed concern over neglect of the Labour laws both by the Centre and State Governments despite the need to encourage investment in the industrial sector.
Presiding over the two-day National Executive Committee meeting of the INTUC here, he said INTUC was against agitations and strikes, but care should be taken that poverty was not created, whenever new investments were encouraged.
Efforts must be made to create permanent employment and care was needed to ensure that there was no apprehension about any aspect of the labour law, he added.
Inaugurating the meeting Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the workers should always raise just and fair demands. With Pondicherry providing a congenial atmosphere, there was speedy industrial development in the Union Territory, he added.
Mr Rangasamy thanked Mr Reddy for choosing Pondicherry as the venue for the meeting.
Pondicherry Health and Labour Minister E Valsaraj speaking on the occasion said the government was providing the right atmosphere for a peaceful industrial relationshsip in the Union Territory.
A Health profile of the workers was also being maintained by constant inspection of the industries, he added.
Mr Valsaraj also referred to the steps taken to promote industrial safety in the factories here.
About 300 delegates were taking part in the meeting.
Earlier, a massive procession with variety of dances was taken out from Ajanta junction to the venue of the meeting by the INTUC Volunteers.
