Central team for assessment of drought affected areas demanded

Itanagar, Aug 26 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet today decided to urge the Centre to send an expert team to assess the loss incurred by the state due to drought like situation.

Briefing mediapersons here today, Chief Minister Gegong Apang informed that the cabinet has made this decision keeping in view the drought-like situation in various parts of the state.

'I have asked the officials of the concerned departments in the affected districts to prepare the figures of crop loss and other damages and submit the report to the Centre for necessary action'', Mr Apang informed.

When asked whether the state government was planning to declare any district as drought affected, the chief minister said that such decision would be taken after going through the reports from respective districts.

Lohit, Dibang Valley, East Siang, Changlang, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey and Upper Subansiri districts were the worst affected areas in the state.

The district administrations have urged upon the state government to provide adequate relief measures to the suffering farmers and declare these areas as drought affected.
