Akash, Tara emerge champions in Jr National tennis

Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) Fourth seed Akash Waugh of Maharashtra and wild card Tara Iyer of Delhi claimed the boys and girls under-18 singles titles in the Adidas-MCC Junior National Tennis championship here today.

In the final, Akash defeated Mohd Fariz of Tamil Nadu 7-6(3), 6-4 for the Boy's title, while Tara put paid to the dream run of qualifier Rashmi Teltumbde of Maharashtra with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win to bag the Girl's title.

In the Under-14 section, Vaidik Munishaw of Gujarat defeated sixth seed Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu 6-0, 6-3 for the boy's title, while third seed Rashmi Teltumbde lifted the girls title with a 6-4, 6-1 upset win over second seed V Archana of Andhra Pradesh.
