Shiv tied 42nd after opening round at Bridgestone Invitational

Akron, Ohio, Aug 25 (UNI) A late recovery failed to help Shiv Kapur's cause as he carded a poor two-over 72 to be tied for the 42nd spot at the 75,00000 dollar European PGA Tour World Golf Championship -- Bridgestone Invitational here.

Shiv failed to hit a single birdie in his back nine after opting to start from the 10th and ended up with bogeys on the 13th, 17th and 18th to make the turn at three-over.

His front nine started no better and he dropped shots on the first and sixth before recovering to fire a hat-trick of birdies from seventh to ninth. However, the effort hardly made a difference and the Indian ended a disappointing day at the Firestone Country Club.

Meanwhile, Australian Adam Scott got off to a flying start with a sensational seven-under 63, which gave him the first round lead.

At the end of the opening day's play, the 26-year-old was two shots clear of his nearest challenger American Jason Gore, who had a rollercoaster 65, with compatriot Lucas Glover in third after his 66.
