Leptospirosis claims 6 more lives in Surat city

Ahmedabad, Aug 25 (UNI) Six more deaths occurred in Surat city from leptospirosis from the overnight two deaths putting the toll at eight.

''So far 30 cases of suspected leptospirosis have been detected in Surat city,'' Family Welfare Secretary Dr Amarjit Singh informed while talking to mediapersons here today.

He said blood samples from infected persons have been sent to National Institute of Communicable diseases (NICD) and the reports are awaited. Plague or hantavirus infection cases have not been detected, Dr Singh clarified.
