K'taka to release new Agriculture policy on Nov 1

Bangalore, Aug 25 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will announce the new Agriculture policy, incorporating the five-point development formula advocated by Agriculture Scientist N Swaminathan, on November one, the State Rajyotsava Day.

Informing this to reporters here today, Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur said Karnataka would be the first state in the country to adopt the five-point formula for farmers, including transfer of latest technology, issuance of soil health cards and low credit facility.

He said the policy would stress on reducing cost of agricultural production, organic farming and post harvest processing.

Mr Kashempur said the draft policy was ready and he would review it on September two with various committees.

He informed that the state's agricultural production was expected to fall by about 40 per cent this year due to deficit rains, compared to last year's 1.6 lakh tonnes.
