Four bombs found in Siliguri town, 4 suspected militants arrested

Siliguri, Aug 25 (UNI) Four powerful bombs, two each planted in as many petrol pumps here, were unearthed and defused and four suspected militants arrested here today.

Police said an employee of Howrah petrol pump on Hill Cart Road first noticed that two bombs were planted at the outlet and a few minutes later a similar case was reported at the nearby Five Star petrol pump, which created panic across the town, police said.

Police and Army bomb disposal squads along with sniffer dogs were immediately called in. They took the bombs to the nearby Teesta river and defused those before any damange was done.

Police said Dipak Mahto of Howrah petrol pump first noticed those bombs, powerful enough to blow parts of the town if it came in contact with the underground oil reservoirs. Each petrol pump was having about 20,000 lts of fuel.

Police also recovered ten gelatin sticks, four monitoring units and copper wire and some electrical gadgets in a brief case.

Police also arrested four suspected militants travelling in a car at the NJP road near NJP railway station.

They were carrying gelatin sticks and wires.

Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) Kishan Lal Meena said investigations are on.
