CU to become 'smart' campus at the click of a mouse

Kolkata, Aug 25 (UNI) Calcutta University is all set to become a ''smart campus'', where solution to every problem will be found at the click of a mouse.

The university, considered to be one of the largest in the country, has decided to solve the problem of backlog with the help of technology, by starting end-to-end campus through internet, CU Registrar Samir Bandopadhyay told UNI.

Work in the university with 12,500 post graduate students, over thousand permanent faculty members, 66 departments and eight campuses slows down due to lack of proper networking.

''We aim to link not only the departments but all the stakeholders like management, faculty, staff and students,'' he said.

This project would help the students find registration details, admission records, attendance, performance details etc, he said.

A team of 16 experts has been appointed to execute this project.

However, not everybody would be able to access all the data, some of which are confidential.

Mr Bandopadhyay said, the students would no longer have to stand in queue to fill up requisition for a library book. The entire catalogue would be digitised and a student will be able to check it online, he said.
