CPI(M) cretese the detention of Indians at Amsterdam
New Delhi, Aug 25 (UNI) The General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakash Karat today condemned the detention of 12 Indians in Amsterdam while travelling to Mumbai as a glaring example of racist profiling.
Mr Karat in a statement issued here, said that there was no evidence whatsoever to suspect the Indian businessmen of any terrorist activity, yet they were handcuffed and kept in detention for two days.
The Northwest Airlines which is responsible for this incident must be asked to pay heavy compensation to the affected passengers, failing which the American airlines should be restricted from flying to India, he said. The Indian Government should convey to the Dutch Government its strong protest at the treatment meted out to the Indian passengers.
The Government should convey to all Western Governments that harassment of Indians on flights and in airports is not acceptable, he added.
