College teachers threaten fast-unto-death

Imphal, Aug 25 (UNI): The teachers of government aided-colleges of Manipur have announced to launch a fast unto death from August 28 in support of their demands.

The teachers had been on stir for about 66 days but the government was not keen in solving their problems.

Earlier Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had stated that the aided colleges in Manipur were not producing good students and there were some colleges where the student teacher ratio was almost 2: 1.

The teachers were demanding proper pay structure, increase in the number of sanctioned teaching posts. They clarified that the number of students had decreased in government colleges also and it was wrong to say that the aided college were not producing good students.

Due to the stir launched by the aided teachers academic activities in about seven aided colleges of Manipur were affected.
