CII, Commonwealth games panel sign MoU to promote business

New Delhi, Aug 25 (UNI) Cashing in on the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi in 2010, CII today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Organising Committee of the Games, to market India as a preferred business partner and investment destination.

Speaking on the occasion, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) President R Seshasayee said, ''It is indeed a privilege for India to host an event of such a great magnitude.'' He said it would give tremendous opportunity to the country to showcase the power of Brand India, with the chamber and the Organising Committee having decided to form the Business Club India.

''Co-managed by the Organising Committee and CII, Business Club India will draw upon the expertise and knowledge of Government and industry to develop a substantive business programme to connect Indian industry with global business,'' he said.

The Business Club will promote, project and showcase globally the India business opportunity and serve as a platform for business facilitation services at the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi, besides offering business networking opportunities.

It will also plan business and investment opportunities in India and facilitate international presence from business and industry.

The other key initiatives of the MoU are development and co-ordination of a volunteers programme, secondment of industry representatives, design a hi-tech Queen's baton and co-ordination of its relay through the Commonwealth countries, and organise networking business events throughout the country.

''We hope to have better infrastructure facilities as a legacy of the Games,'' Mr Seshasayee said.

An estimated 9,000 athletes and almost a lakh of visitors are expected at the Games. Organising Committee Commonwealth Games.
