UP docs, IITians join renewed anti-quota stir

Lucknow, Aug 24 (UNI) Doctors from Varanasi and Lucknow and students of IIT-Kanpur today joined the renewed anti-quota stir.

While a group of IIT (Kanpur) students sat on a 24-hour hunger strike to proterst cabinet aproval to OBC quota plan, medicos at Lucknow and Varanasi wore black bands to protest the move.

Student leaders at IIT-K claimed students and teachers have availed a mass casual leave today.

But, they would come to work, while senior students entitled for an honorarium would not avail it today.

A group of IIT students will leave for the National capital tomorrow to join the anti-quota stir spearheaded by AIIMS students.

In the state capital, resident doctors at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science wore black bands to protest the cabinet approval to OBC quota in institutions of higher education.

They said till the time, the government's does not relent, their protest would continue. ''As of now, we are not going on a strike,'' they added.

Doctors at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) too wore black bands to symbolically protest the UPA government move to introduce 27 per cent OBC Quota bill in the current session of Parliament.

''As per our request, the resident doctors and teachers of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital and Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) are wearing black bands to work to show their support towards our anti-reservation cause,'' said Shashi Prakash, the media incharge of agitating doctors.
