Two HM militants killed and HUJI militant surrenders in Doda
Doda, Aug 24 (UNI) Security forces today gunned down two militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen(HM) in an encounter at remote village of Kalihand while a Section Commander of Harkar-ul-Jehadi Islami(HUJI) surrendered in Nagini area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Varinder Sharma told UNI that teams of four Rashtriya Rifles and police, on specific information about hiding of militants in area, launched a joint operation and gunned down two militants, Kuldeep Sharma alias Kamran and Khalid Ali Kashmiri, in a fierce encounter.
According to police sources, both the militants were taking shelter at Ghulam Mohideen's house in the village and when cordoned they lobbed a hand granade on security personnel which led to the encounter.
Kuldeep, a relative of local leader of mainstream political party, was allegedly a notorious criminal and wanted in many criminal cases to police. He had joined the HM outfit to evade the arrest and was active in the area since 2000 as tehsil commander of outfit.
Security personnel recovered four hand grenades from the sight of the encounter.
According to defence sources, a selfstyled section commander of Huji Shabbir Hajjam surrendered before the 63 Rashtriya Rifles in Nagini area of the district last evening. He handed over one AK rifle, two magzines and eight AK rounds to the troops. He was active in the area since 2004.
