Thar Exp suspended due to heavy rains

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) Thar Express, linking Munabao in Rajasthan and Khokrapar in Pakistan's Sindh province, has been temporarily suspended as large stretches of track on Munabao-Barmer-Jodhpur section are submerged under deep water, suffering extensive damage in the process.

A ministry spokesman today said the trans-border train would remain cancelled for four trips, commencing from the one scheduled from Jodhpur tomorrow.

''The expected period of restoration has been estimated at three weeks after the water recedes and the extent of damage fully assessed,'' he said.

He also pointed out that tracks at many places on the route had been damaged and a culvert washed away, making the running of the train impossible.
