Seeds sail through easily in 35th Nat'l Junior Chess
New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) Grandmaster norm holder and top seed Abhijit Gupta (BP) started off with a fluent victory over local challenger Ram Gupta as the seeded players chalked out easy victories in the first round of the 35 th National Junior Chess Championship here today.
G Rohit used only 10 minutes on his clock to beat Delhi's Soumya Sharma while Women Grandmaster D Harika (AP) lone girl participant in the open section, accounted for Abhishek Jaiswal.
There were no surprises in the 21st edition of the National Junior Girls as well as all the leading players were off to a flier. The lone exception Women International Master Kruttika Nadig who was stretched a bit by Aishwarya of Jharkhand. In the end however, it still proved to be an easy victory for Nadig.
Top seed Mary Ann Gomes was amongst the first to finish her game as she quickly outplayed Aditi Sharma in a one sided affair.
Playing white, Gomes surprised her opponent by going for an off beat opening with her white pieces and gradually improved her position to win in quick time.
