SC grants stay against the demolition of TCF Textiles ltd

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted stay till Monday against the demolition of a multi storeyed building housing the office of TCF Texiles Private Ltd on Usman road in T Nagar in Chennai.

The status quo order was passed by a bench comprising Mr Justice K G Balakrishnana, Mr Justice G P Mathur and Mr Justice R V Raveendran when he matter was mentioned for getting an early date of hearing.

Earlier, Madras High Court had cleared the decks for the demolition of the complex as it had been constructed in violation of plan permission, coastal regulatory zone provision and other development control rules.

Earlier, a single judge bench of the High Court had stayed the demolition. A two judge bench, however, vacated the stay granted by the single judge bench and directed the authorities to demolish the building.

The High Court yesterday appointed a monitoring committee to oversee the demolition of other structures built on encroached public land.

The judges had also directed that water and sewerage constructions of such building be diconnected and no prior notices need be given for demolition of illegal structures in the city The High Court also directed the civil courts in Chennai not to entertain any suit or application connected to the regularisation of such buildings.

The Supreme Court will hear the case on Monday.
