Samples of viral fever cases sent to NICD

Surat, Aug 24 (UNI) Samples of blood and syrum of the persons affected by ''viral fever'' has been sent to National Institute of Communicable Disease(NICD), New Delhi for serology test and the report is expected late in the evening today, district administration informed here today.

Two persons died at Katargam area, in the city in the last two days, due to ''viral fever''.

Sources at the Preventive Medicine Department, Surat Medical College said that the death could be due to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome(HPS) , a disease caused by virus spread by rodents.

Dr Vikasben Desai of Surat Medical College said any final conclusion on the nature of the disease can be decided only after receiving the test results.

According to medical experts, HPS is a deadly disease spread by rodents through saliva, urine or drops.

The disease is communicable through air and major symptoms are fever, muscle pain, fatigue, chills and abdominal problems, nausea and diarrhoea.

District administration and Surat Municipal Corporation however allayed the fear of any plague threat is in the city.
