Production of milk increased in Tripura

Agartala, Aug 24 (UNI) Tripura Government has sent a project report for an amount of Rs six crore to the Centre for both setting up of a Dairy and to increase the proucton of milk in the Indranagar Milk Dairy here.

According to a Government press release here today, besides, this step, the state government has taken a number of measures to continue the milk production process in the state where ten mt milk produced more during last three years, the Animal Resource Development decded to launch live stock insurance scheme from next month for the cows and buffalows.

The Animal Resource Development is working to make the state self sufficienct in milk production in ten years. In its first phase 28,000 milk giving cows and buffalows would be brought under the insurance scheme for which an agreement with the national Insurance company has been made.

The cows which enable to give minimum five litres milk daily, such two cows from each family will be covered with the live stock insurance scheme. As a pilot project, the Centre has given a lumpsum Rs 42 lakhs for the beneficiares in the West District in case any of the 28,000 insured cows or buffalows died.

At present the state have to import 25,000 litres of milk from the outside to meet the demand yearly costs of which is Rs 40 crores in the market, the release added quoting the Animal Resource Development Minister Pranab Debbarma.
