Opposition demands Home Minister's resignation

Ranchi, Aug 24 (UNI) For Jharkhand Home Minister Sudesh Mahto, the Opposition did not relent on the fifth day as they went a step further demanding his resignation besides pressing for remake of the 20-point programme implementation committee amid shouts and slogans leading to adjournment of the House twice today.

The Home Minister under constant Opposition ire since the Monsoon Session began last week, yesterday shot back and presented a list giving details of the cases pending against each of the legislators, mainly the Opposition UPA members.

The Oppostion had been raising hue and cry over the alleged police atrocities on legislators stalling the proceedings. They charged Mr Mahto for using police to terrorise the Opposition by framing cases against them.

Today, as the question hour began, main Opposition party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Dular Bhuiyan strongly refuted the Home Minister's statement in the House saying he had no cases pending against him.

Toeing his line, Mr Manoj (Congress), Mr Girinath Sinha (RJD) and many from the UPA came to the well of the House shouting slogans against Mr Mahto and demanded his resignation.

Amid acrimonious scene, state HRD Minister Pradeep Yadav said since the House was not in order, the statement of the Opposition should not be recorded to which Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari also agreed.

As the Opposition refused to calm down, the Speaker adjourned the House for ten minutes.

The Opposition again raised hulla baloo during zero hour notice when they demanded dissolution of the 20-point programme implementation committee.

The Opposition bringing various charges against it, kept shouting in the well of the House.

Mr Stephen Marandi (Ind) demanded that the old committee be dissolved and reconstituted afresh as all legislators were required to be treated fairly.

As unruly scene continued to prevail, BJP members from the Treasury also stood up to counter and shout slogan, ''Bipaksh ka dadagiri nehin chalegi....''.

The Speaker again annonuced adjournment till 1400 hrs.
