Novell launches SUSE Linux Enterprise 10
Mumbai, Aug 24: Redefining the operating system (OS) of a computer, Novell launched SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, the next generation for the open enterprise, here today.
Today's launch of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 formed part of the global launch of the product, which has been made available in five Indian languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi.
However, soon it would be made available in 13 more Indian languages.
The basic requirements for the installation of the new OS are 256 MB memory, 500 mega hertz computer and 1 GB of space.
Briefing the media after the launch, Company managing director (West Asia) Revathi Kasturi, said that the USP of our new product is secure operating system, usability and above all inter-operability.'' Elaborating it, she said that now even starters can find the new OS user-friendly. Rather than relying on the old existing form of OS what Novell's rival Microsoft's Windows has been giving to its customers for years now, the new product of Novell shows the graphic user interface (GUI) in a cubicle form. It simply means that you can see the GUI in a 3-D cubicle form and open a number of faces of the cubicle in the form of desktops as per your choice at a time. The localisations will give a great boost to the e-governance initiatives by the state and central governments in the project areas of community kiosks as well as the ongoing education initiatives by both the private and public sectors, she hoped.
Talking about the pricing structure of the product, the company's Linux Practice head of Indian subcontinent, Prakash Adwani, said that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscriptions will be available in for either mainframe or non-mainframe servers.
