Nathpa Jhakri remains closed in HP

Shimla, Aug 24 (UNI) The 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydel power in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh remained closed for the second day today with the silt level in the reservior remaining above the permissible level, a company official said.

The silt level in the reservior had marginally increased to 5,800 parts per million (ppm) against a permissible limit of 4,000 ppm, he told UNI.

The official said the water discharge was also high at 900 cusecs, against a normal discharge of 400 to 500 cusecs.

The power generation in all the six units of 250 MW each would resume as soon as the silt level in the reservior comes down to 4,000 ppm, he added.
