Media fraternity threatened in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 24 (UNI) Mediapersons of Manipur have expressed concern over the repeated threats given to them by unknown persons for refusing to issue their press statements.

A meeting held last night at the State Press Club discussed regarding the ban imposed on a few newspapers published in the state by some unknown persons.

The scribes also informed regarding the threatnings by a new millitant organisation.

The meeting had decided not to publish any reports connected with the new organisation.

Condemning the failure of the police department the journalists said they had also submitted a memorandum to the state DGP A K Parashar, however, the police had not taken any action till yet.

They also said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi refused to litsen to their plea.

"The CM and his government would be held responsible if anything happens to us," they have warned.

The scribes, however, said they would lift the boycott of government news from tomorrow.

The journalists also questioned regarding the security arrangements made for them.
