Lyngdoh appeals police not to indulge in politics
Shillong, Aug 24 (UNI) Meghalaya Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh today warned the law enforcing agencies not to involve themselve in politics and devote mostly to maintain law and order situation.
Mr Lyngdoh said while inaugurating the two-day annual meet of the ''Superintendents of Police Conferences and Commandants--2006''which began here today.
Mr Lyngdoh's statement assumed significance in the backdrop of dissidence in the ruling Congress party wherein 15 Congress mlas have demanded to remove Chief Minister JD Rymbai and re-instate his predecessor Mr D.D.Lapang as leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
However, when asked, the Home Minister refused to elaborate further, but stated police indulgence in politics will dilute the moral bound duties to serve the people.
