LS adjourned twice on Bihar law and order issue
New Delhi, Aug 24: The Lok Sabha was today adjourned twice over the alleged intervention of the Centre in the law and order matters of Bihar with the JD(U) and the RJD coming close to a clash following remarks by a senior member from the state Prabhunath Singh.
The house was first adjourned for 50 minutes till 1400 hrs amid a surcharged atmosphere after ruling RJD members came close to entering the well following some remarks made by JD(U) member Prabhunath Singh about some criminals roaming scot-free in Bihar.
When the house reassembled at 1400 hrs, Deputy Speaker Chiranjit Singh Atwal announced that the house would remain adjourned till 1500 hrs, extending the duration of the adjournment for another one hour.
The second adjournment was in view of the fact that the all party meeting convened by the Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to arrive at a consensus was inconclusive at 1400 hours.
After the second adjournment, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi was seen leading the leaders of legislature groups to the Speaker's chamber from the house.
Raising the issue during the zero hour, Mr Prabhunath Singh said the Centre was unconstitutionally intervening in Bihar though the law and order was a state subject.
He also mentioned the names of some of the Central Ministers which, however, were expunged by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
Upon this, the RJD members, led by Mr Ramkirpal Yadav, Mr Sadhu Yadav and Mr Raghunath Jha rushed towards the well in a visibly furious mood.
Sensing the situation, the Speaker adjourned the House at 1310 hrs, barely ten minutes after it had reassembled after a 45-minute adjournment over the issue of cutting the hair of a Sikh boy in Jaipur.
