K'taka to appoint Chairmen to Boards, Corporations soon

Bangalore, Aug 24 (UNI) The process of appointing chairpersons to various boards and corporations in Karnataka and filling up the remaining berths in the seven-month-old Kumaraswamy ministry will be taken up and completed in the next eight to ten days.

Revealing this to newspersons after the meeting of the Coordination Committee, comprising representatives from both the ruling coalition partners--JD (S) and BJP, JD (S) State President M P Prakash and BJP State President Sadananda Gowda said the meeting took note of the delay in appointment to various government bodies and observed that chairmen could be appointed only in respect of profit making undertakings on a 50-50 ratio.

There were 32 urban bodies and six Command Area Development Authorities, in addition to several profit-making state public sector undertakings. Loyal workers of both the political parties would be given top priority while filling up such posts, they added.

The leaders said the next cabinet meeting would discuss the probable date for summoning the legislature session to ensure passage of the Office of Profit Bill as done by Parliament recently to enable appointment of some legislators too for these posts.The whole process of appointment would be completed in the next ten days, they assured.

To a question, they denied that the Rs 150 crore bribery charge levelled by suspended BJP member G Janardhana Reddy against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy figured in the meeting.

They said the meeting also decided to hold sitting once a fortnight.

Besides the two state party Presidents, Mr Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Water Resources Minister K S Eswarappa, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar and Higher Education Minister D H Shankara Murthy and Transport Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy attended the meeting.
