London, Aug 24 (UNI) Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq's disciplinary hearing could take place earlier than expected either before or during the one-day series against England, ICC said today.

BBC Sport quoted an ICC spokesman as saying that cricket's governing body did not want the charges lingering for longer than necessary.

The hearing was originally scheduled for tomorrow but postponed indefinitely because ICC chief referee Ranjan Madugalle was unavailable because of family reasons.

The Pakistan captain has been charged with ball-tampering and bringing the game into disrepute following the balltampering row.

There were reports that the hearing could be postponed until after the one-day series, which ends on September 10, but it could take place before or during the series which begins on August 30.

''What we are after is a happy medium. On the one hand we want to get it resolved as quickly as possible but on the other we want a complete and fair process,'' the spokesman said.

''I understand the Pakistan legal team are not displeased with a small delay because it will give them a further opportunity to work on their case. But we cannot give a definite date for the hearing at the moment.'' ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed is expected to fly to London in the next couple of days to hold a series of meetings.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's tour match against Middlesex at Uxbridge has been called off without any play because of wet conditions.

Pakistan are to play a Twenty20 international in Bristol on Monday before the first ODI is held at Cardiff on Wednesday.
