IIM-A students take out candle rally to protest quota policy
Ahmedabad, Aug 24: Over 150 students of the Indian Institute of Management here, today took out a silent rally by holding candles to protest against the reservation policy of the UPA government.
They marched from the new campus to the old campus. ''We have to stand up to our viewpoint. We are very unhappy with the way the reservations are being imposed,'' the students said in a statement.
They said right to education is a fundamental right and the purpose of reservations which the politicians are aiming at, will not yield any results.
The government has given a blanket date, without taking into considerations the ground realities, they said.
''This is a pan-IIM protest and other IIMs will also join in. Our professors are doing an impact study on the reservations and our alumni will take up the issue in the Supreme Court,'' they said.
