Hooda welcomes Rs 40 hike in MSP of paddy

Chandigarh, Aug 24 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for conceding the demand of the farmers by announcing an increase of Rs 40 per quintal over and above already increased of Rs 10 per quintal on minimum support price (MSP) of paddy.

The Chief Minister said that he had been requesting time and again to the Agriculture Minister as well as the Prime Minister to enhance the minimum support price of paddy in the interest of the farmers which had been accepted by them.

Mr Hooda said that the Congress Pary under the leadership of Mrs Sonia Gandhi had always been committed for the welfare of all sections of the society especially the farming community.

He said that the policies and programmes of UPA Government were pro farmers and it had always safeguarded the interests of the farmers.
