Hindu militant among two killed, 7 ultras arrested in J

Srinagar, Aug 24 (UNI) A Hindu militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and his associate were killed by the security forces in an encounter while seven ultras, including a top commander of Al Badr, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, an official spokesman said today.

A top Harkat-Ul-Jehadi Islami (HUJI) commander also surrendered before the security forces in the state.

The spokesman said the security forces gunned down two Hizb militants in an encounter at remote village of Kalihand in Doda district of Jammu region today.

A UNI report from Jammu, quoting Assistant Superintendent of Police Varinder Sharma, said personnel of 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the police, on a specific information, launched a joint operation at Kalihand village and killed two Hizbul militants.

The militants have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar alias Kamran alias KK, a resident of Roti, Paderna in Doda district, and Abdul Latief alias Khalid Kashmiri of Anantnag district in south Kashmir.

Four hand grenades were seized from them.

Kuldeep Kumar, a relative of a local leader of a mainstream political party, was allegedly a notorious criminal and is wanted in many cases. He had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to evade arrest and was active in the area since 2000 as the outfit's tehsil commander.
