Haryana to rope in Airtel to run telecom courses in ITIs
Chandigarh Aug 24 (UNI) The Haryana government plans to rope in Bharti Airtel Ltd to introduce certificate courses in telecommunication engineering in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
The government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharti Airtel Limited to introduce certificate courses in telecommunication engineering in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for their captive requirement, Industrial Training and Vocational Education Minister Lachhman Dass Arora said today.
A MoU will also be signed with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to develop three Industrial Training Institutes for women located in the National Capital Region (NCR) as centres of excellence in the garment manufacturing trades.
He said the testing and certification of workers of informal sector would be initiated in the field of automobiles at ITIs in Gurgaon and Rohtak with the help of Maruti Udyog Limited.
The training in these new trades will open more avenues for the youth to get employment.
He said that Construction Industry Development Corporation, with which a MoU was signed by the state government, has started two courses in construction sector at ITI, Palwal. The corporation has been granted permission to introduce three more courses in construction sector at the same ITI.
These courses included asphalt lab technician, building material lab technician and heavy duty vehicle motor mechanic. The corporation was organising camps in various ITIs for testing and certification of workers in construction trade. There was a plan to test and certify 2000 workers before March 2007.
The Department of Industrial Training and Vocational Education had already taken a number of initiatives to improve the quality of training. The trades of six months duration have been upgraded into one year. The syllabus for 13 trades have been reviewed and qualifications of instructors under centre of excellence scheme have been upgraded for new appointments, he said.
As many as 350 instructors were sent for training during current academic year, he added.
