Govt. privatising 3 textbook presses: Maken

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The Centre has decided to privatise three government of India text book presses at Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Chandigarh.

Giving this information, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken assured the Rajya Sabha today that the tenure of employees of these presses would not suffer.

In a written reply, he said that the presses were set up for printing textbooks of the states concerned. As the state governments were not able to provide adequate jobs, it was decided to transfer these presses to the respective state governments, Mr Maken said, adding that upon refusal by the three state governments to accept transfer, it had been decided to privatise these presses.

These are 16 Government of India presses/text book presses under the administrative control of Directorate of Printing, Ministry of Urban Development. These presses were located in Mysore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Gangtok, Shimla, Kolkata, Howrah, Korratty, Coimbatore, Nashik, Aligarh, Nilokheri, and Faridabad.

Three are located in New Delhi, he said.
