Five die,scores affected by diarrhoea in Singhbhum

Jamshedpur, Aug 24 (UNI) Diarrhoea has claimed five lives and affected 476 people in East Singhbhum district during the last fortnight.

District civil surgeon Dr S K Ravi said three people died in the MGM Medical College and Hospital while two villagers died in Pipla and Patamda areas.

He said the worst sufferers were the Sabar tribes under Pipla panchayat. The district administration had set up week-long medical camps and sent a medical team to tackle the situation. Camps were also organised in Patamda area, Dr Ravi said.

Cases of Tuberculosis had also risen among the Sabar tribes in Potka area and district Deputy Commissioner N M Kulkarni had asked the civil surgeon to set up special diagnostic camp in the area.

Dr Ravi said the leprosy eradication programme in the district was in progress with the joint efforts of the government and non-government agencies.
