Family celebrates Manjit's selection for Arjuna Award
Jalandhar, Aug 24 (UNI) Cheers and celebration prevailed at the residence of Olympian athlete Manjit Kaur who has been selected for the Arjun a Award.
Manjit Kaur's father Harbhajan Singh Saini, mother Baldev Kaur and other members of the family were busy attending visitors who thronged her PAP Colony residence here to greet the family.
Manjit Kaur, an inspector in the Punjab Armed Police (PAP), is presently away in Ukraine to attend a camp for the Doha Asian Games.
However, she had been conveyed over telephone she exprened Her satisfaction over her selection for the prestigious award and felt that this award had enhanced her responsibility for the team.
The winning streak for Manjit Kaur had begun with 2002 Busan Asian Games when she contributed in winning 400x4 relay gold medal for the country. Later in 2003' she had set a national record in 400M run, in 2004 Athens Olympics she was the member of the 400x4 relay Indian team which had made its way for finals in the event.
In the Melbourne Commonwealth Games earlier this year' Manjit was again member of the 400x4 relay silver medal winner team.
She is now aspiring to win medals in 400M run and 400x4 relay race in the Asian Games in Doha later in December this year.
Meanwhile, in her absence' her father Harbhajan Singh Saini will receive the award from the president on August 29.
''This will be great moment in his life'', Mr Saini said.
