Faking accidents for insurance money

Jabalpur, Aug 24(UNI) Police registered cheating case against 22 people, including doctors and lawyers, who faked accidents to claim huge amount from insurance companies, police said.

Gangrene-affected people, who could not avail better treatment due to poverty, were used by a group of lawyers to file claim suits for huge insurance amount.

The scandal came to the fore following an anonymous complaint received by the state police headquarters last year about 9 fake accident cases registered at Garha police station here.

The lawyers' group got the gangrene-affect people admitted to a private hospital, lodged fake accident cases involving vehicles of their acquaintances and filed compensation suits. Challans in 9 such cases had been put up in courts.

In the wake of complaints, police found the insurance claims as bogus and prayed the court to suspend hearing.

Cheating case were registered against 22 people including hospital director Dr B K Daga, advocates Shishir Kewat and Arjun Sahu.
